2010 is just around the corner.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be held in South Africa with kickoff in 930 days.

There are 3 such entrances to the parking garage at Durban International Airport. Hopefully Sepp Blatter noticed them when he arrived this week see how the stadium was progressing.

KZN Doctors In Art

At Legends Lifestyle center, a number of KZN doctors held their 2nd annual exhibition of their art. These doctors are professionals but looking around this exhibition, you'd think they were professional artists. They produce these pieces for pleasure, then donate the proceeds of the sales to the Lean On Me Trust.

From the mission statement on their site
: "Lean on Me aims to improve the lives of people infected or affected with HIV/AIDS. We believe that the Lean on Me volunteers return to their countries as ambassadors for AIDS awareness and the hardships Africans face."

Once I've secured the consent of the artists, I'll show close ups of a few my favourite pieces.

African family looking for a home.

Another example of the goods on offer at The Bat Center - african dolls with their colourful blankets and beads.

My blog aims to bring you a view of everyday life in Durban. Those items unlikely to find their way into local news, and certainly not international news. If you'd like to see some "newsworthy" items from Durban, please take a look at Clive Read's Durban Diaries. His blog helps give a bigger picture of whats happening in and around Durban. Certainly worth keeping an eye on this one.

Bridge over the River Umgeni

The Ellis Brown Viaduct spans the Umgeni River to link Durban with Durban North.

At the mouth of the Umgeni is The Blue Lagoon a popular fishing. Bathing is prohibited in this area because of currents, turbulant waters, and of course the very real danger of sharks who're also interested in fishing these waters!

The finish line for the annual Dusi Canoe Marathon is on the other side of this bridge.

The 3 buildings at the end of this bridge, are the same buildings in the center of yesterday's post. These buildings mark the location of the Hypermarket by the Sea - a large (by South African standards) supermarket.

This is post no. 100. Thank you to everyone who has taken an interest in my beautiful Durban. I've enjoyed the journey so far and especially enjoyed your company. A special thanks to Kerry-anne and Paul from Cape Town for introducing me to this community.

Looking behind you.

A little over a week ago I posted a photo of the bluff, showing a little of the beach. From the same position, looking in the other direction, are the bathing beaches of Durban.

The nearest line into the sea, is of bathers, where hundreds of people enjoy the gentle waves. They need to remain between the beacons so the lifesavers can keep an eye on things. A little way out, the shark nets ensure that Mr Jaws and his scary music are denied a tasty lunch.

Wood-cutting Prints.

Isaac Sithole is an artist selling his art from one of the little shops on the ground floor of The Bat Center. He creates these colourful wood-cutting prints. An interesting combination.

Good Graffiti.

More interesting, colourful artwork decorating the wall at The Bat Center.
