This little queue has no chance of filling up the stadium today! Don't know what was the occasion, but it is obviously not a big event.
The major rugby matches which find themselves in Durban are played at the Absa Stadium aka Kings Park. Across the road the soccer stadium is being re-developed in preparation for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Light makes the picture.
Each day I discover something new about photography. Many times its something I've heard before, but suddenly it makes sense. My uncle (a retired professional photographer) describes photography as painting with light, and now I understand what he meant.
Because it was overcast, and threatening rain, I thought the weather was all wrong for good photos. To my surprise it was actually perfect. Because it was cold and we'd had some rain, the air was crisp and clear. Small breaks in the dark clouds provided an interesting variation in the light, resulting in the buildings along Durban's golden mile being illuminated, making them stand out even at a significant distance.
The bluff of course, clothed in its natural vegetation, absorbed all the light it received, giving the strong contrast to the town.

The power of one.
Because the subject of our May Theme day is Numbers, the plan was a 2010 Soccer World Cup sign together with the new stadium in the background. While finding the half built stadium was easy - just follow the yellow steel cranes, there were no 2010 signs anywhere.
Instead this amended sign along the same road was rather amusing. Anyone who tries to "obey" this speed limit could have serious problems with their vehicle afterward, given the speed humps and construction going on here.
Below are the other City Daily Photo bloggers from around the world, who are participating in this month's theme day on numbers.

Mr Bones
It just gets better and better. Not our quiz results! .... the chalk drawings on the menu board. The detail on this picture at the Keg And Trout in Hillcrest - all done in chalk, is phenomenal.
Our score at quiz was very good, but not sufficient to win. Perhaps we should have asked Mr Bones to join our team!!
Our funny man, Leon Shuster plays Mr Bones in the movie of the same name. His character is that of a white man who grew up as the adopted son of the chief of a traditional African tribe, not knowing he doesn't actually belong. He is a bungling sangoma, who advises the chief by reading the future in the bones he throws. The chief is old and frail and needs to find his successor. The movie tells the amuzing events as Mr Bones sets out to find the chief's son.

Serena Alpaca Farm

The alpacas of Serena Alpaca farm in Mooi River head for the fence to greet their visitors. If truth be known, they're actually after the food which accompanies their visitors.
The alpacas are sheared annually. This fleece is transformed into the most beautiful soft wool, at the small mill on the farm. When the processed in this way, each garment will be unique, because there is no guarantee of producing exactly the same blend of colour in two successive runs.

Unusual place for a church.
Seems Glenridge Church has finally found a permanent home, this time its above the Durban Station. At first it sounds like rather a strange place for a church, but on second thoughts one can see the benefits.
Parking is no problem. Very few trains run on a Sunday, and the other businesses which share this roof-top are closed, so there's plenty of parking for the congregation.
No disturbance. The congreqation are free to sing their praises without fear of offending those who don't share their beliefs. No one can hear them.
Zim update: The ship carrying arms destined for Zim has been recalled by China. It has docked in Angola to offload the Angolan orders, and to refuel. No arms will be offloaded, or sent to Zim. This is a small victory for democracy.
The recount is almost done, with only one extra seat going to the ruling party, but not enough to make any significant change to the ultimate result.
Many other African leaders are calling Robert Mugabe to step down without further incident, but who knows what he will do.
