Botha's Hill Station

Botha's Hill Station, along the route of the Comrades marathon, is another of those converted railway stations. At one time quite a popular venue for a Sunday afternoon tea in the country, this one is unfortunately no longer used.

Stokers Arms

Because the trains no longer use this portion of the tracks, many of the old railway stations along the route have been converted into restuarants.
The old Kloof Station, which is now Stokers Arms, is very popular with the locals.
The coach on the right serve as extra dining area.

View of the beach from the air.

This was taken during the same helicopter ride. This is a view of Duban beachfront.

Suns rays streaming through the clouds.

Late in the day, I realised I'd run out of dog food for my little Smudge, so had to rush off to the supermarket before closing time. After a particularly blustery day, this beautiful sunset greeted me as I drove up the hill.

Helicopter Ride.

A while back I was fortunate enough to accompanying my uncle on a helicopter ride from Umhlanga to Durban along the coastline. His mission as a professional photographer was to update his portfolio with some current photos of the Durban coastline.
My mission was to remain calm throughtout the flight - I'm terrified of heights, and a helicopter feels quite flimsy when you're up there looking down. Well I succeeded and even managed to take this picture of the Bluff at the Harbour mouth in Durban. Most of my pictures while we were up there, were a case of aim the camera, click, and hope for the best. You can see the reflection of the rotor blades in the windscreen at the bottom of the photo!
If offered another trip in a helicopter, I'd certainly go again - but then I'm a glutton for punishment!!

Did you miss it!!

One of the most helpful signs I've seen around! The pharmacy referenced here is in Wyebank - about 30km west of Durban.

This road will take you from Wyebank, through to the N3 at the top of Fields Hill. On a clear day the view down the valley, through to the sea, is magnificent.

Peaceful residence.

Even in the middle of winter, the vegetation is still interesting. Unfortunately the area in the foreground was burned about 2 days before this photo. The only thing which was left unscathed, was the anthill from which this photo was taken.
