Halfway

This sign marks the official halfway point for the Comrades Marathon.
The contour map at the bottom has Pietermaritzburg on the left, Durban on the right, and shows the halfway point in the middle.

The sign reads:

Drummond has always been the traditional halfway of the route, and for race purposes this serves as the halfway cut-off point.

The true measured halfway mark is situated either before or after this point depending on which direction the race is run.

Comrades Marathon
Run annually since 1921 between Pietermaritzburg and Durban
Route direction alternates every year
Down race to Durban in odd years
Up race to Pietermaritzburg in even years
