Follow the yellow brick Road.

Painting the road yellow would confuse everyone. Next best is to mark the route with balloons. After all, you don't want anyone to miss out on the party, do you?

All by myself!

Why is it that people always feel the need to leave their litter wherever they go? They were quite happy to carry a heavy item in, but seem to feel that when empty it's just too heavy to carry out. What make them think that if they don't want it, someone else will?

Location, location, location.

If you want to succeed in business, there are 2 things you need - a relevant product, and the correct location. Without that, you're wasting your time. This little business started on this location, some years back. The motor licencing building is on the left, and to the right is the vehicle testing ground.

Each day, the licencing office services hundreds of people, registering cars or attempting to obtain a learners or drivers's licence. Without an ID photo to attach to the form, you will get no-where. Without a registered vehicle, or a driver's licence you'd have a very long walk to the nearest photographer.

Some years ago, these guys recognised the opportunity, brought a camera, printer, chair and sheet and started their business. Over the years their little office has progressed into this rather smart little prefab room. Every day, they have queue's of people who either forgot, or didn't know they needed a photo.

Because I detest having to wait in queues, whenever I need to deal with government type departments, I arrive just before they close the doors, so normally get done quite quickly. Today was only a 40 min wait. Usually it is at least 1.5 hours. By the time I was done, almost everyone else had already left.

Don't worry, be happy.

Ever get those days when you need to be reminded to be thankful for all you have? This picture serves to keep me on the straight and narrow.

This lady and some of her friends spend each day hoping to sell their beads to visitors stopping to admire the Comrades Wall of Honour. And she still manages a big smile.

Chalk it up to experience.

Each Tuesday evening we have our "pub team quiz" at the local "Keg" - in this case the Keg and Trout in Heritage Market, Hillcrest.

The specials, change each month, so are written in chalk, on this blackboard. The remarkable thing, is the picture of Jake White(coach for our national rugby team), also done in chalk. The detail and precision is amazing - right down to the skin tone, and aven the light reflections in the eyes.

Every month a new picture is drawn - always in chalk, usually of one of our rugby heros.

Fulton School for the Deaf.

The Fulton School for the Deaf, situated in Gillits (new Hillcrest, outside Durban city), includes Pre-primary, Primary and High School Setions, and caters for the specific education needs of Deaf learners. Their current enrolment stands at 100 children ranging in age from 3 to 22 years old. They provide hostel facilities for a large number of learners who are unable to commute to school each day.

They provide academic, cultural, sporting, social and spiritual experiences for the holistic development of the learners.

This is the front verandah of the main house, which was donated by Mr and Mrs J.K. Fulton in January 1959.

Do you also feel the character when you visit these older buildings? The wide verandah, and beautiful doors and windows.

Some perspective on the Old Fort.

The entrance to the Old Fort Chapel, a popular venue for non-denominational weddings and funerals.

Yesterday's bad hair turret is situated on the right of the photo, and the plaques posted on 4th and 5th are those you see on the left and right of the entrance.

To answer Lynnette's question - the wall at this entrance is slightly higher than the rest of the wall along the road, and as you can see from the people, even this is quite low for a fort. I'm sure there's a good reason, and when I find it, I'll let you know.
