It was a rainy grey morning, and on our way back from a 10am meeting in 'Toti this plane was going in for a landing at the Airport. I just liked the rather dramatic feel of this photo.

A Grey Day

Good news, Bad news.
The good news is that from the upper floors of this building, on one side you'd have a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean, and the other side the entire harbour.
The bad news - if you're in there, you most likely don't feel well enough to enjoy the view anyway.
This is Addington Hospital, one of our state hospitals, and its been around for a long time.

The Esplanade.
Three photos stitched together to give a wide view of the Esplanade taken from in front of the Royal Natal Yacht Club. These buildings have a beautiful view of the harbour.
In this area one will find the Bat Center, Wilsons Wharf, the Point Yacht Club, Royal Natal Yacht Club, and of course hundreds of yachts of all shapes and sizes.
Kate, thanks for asking about the art co-op, this one's for you.

Old School Ties.
THIS PLAQUE WAS UNVEILED ON THE5TH AUGUST 1996
BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNERS
MR. A. J. ARDINGTON TO COMMEMORATE THE
FOUNDING OF MICHAELHOUSE ON THIS SITE BY
CANON JAMES CAMERON TODD ON THE
5TH AUGUST 1896
"Within a few years, Michaelhouse was appointed the Diocesan College for boys in Natal, governed by a permanent Trust Deed and administered by a Board of Governors. The strong Christian ethos remains the cornerstone of the value system at Michaelhouse."
Pietermaritzburg is 90km from Durban, so this is not strictly a Durban photo. However, since thousands of people run the Comrades Marathon between Durban and 'Maritzburg every year, it can't be all that far away :-).
While attending to business there, my client mentioned this plaque, and the fact that the property was the original site of the school, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share it with you.

Cemeteries and Tombstones.
The last burial in this little military cemetery was in 1940. It is now locked, and access is by appointment only. The best I could do was taek the photo through the bars.

Durban is just down the road.

From a pedestrian bridge over Berea Road, you can see the concrete jungle which is the city center. Ok, close up, it's not entirely a concrete - there are a number of small gardens, and many small trees are allowed to grow along some of the roads, giving it a welcoming feel.
The hill in the background it the Bluff. The barely visible, little smudge rising above the hill is the harbour control tower. For a better view of this, and some perspective of this shot, take a look at an earlier picture of the harbour mouth.
Travelling up towards us, Berea Road becomes the N3 the main road to Johannesburg.
